Choosing a New Oven

Does it feel like your oven has always been there, like an old workhorse serving out its time? When you choose a new fitted kitchen, naturally you will want a new one to go with it, but choosing a new oven can be a minefield of choice.

Your oven is like an old, familiar family friend, so choosing a new one means getting to grips with new designs and ideas, and asking yourself; ‘which oven would suit my new kitchen?’

At PD Designs we only work with brands and companies we can trust, and our partner for ovens is Neff, supplying the very latest and greatest appliances for our fitted kitchens in Nelson, Skipton, Colne, Clitheroe, Burnley, Hebden Bridge and across the north and north west.

Here we’ll look at types of ovens, and what to look for in the best one for your kitchen.

Your Needs

There are two main factors in choosing a new oven, one is design, but the other is function. In other words, how do you cook and what will your kitchen be like?

If you’re having a bespoke, minimalist kitchen and it’s going to be relatively compact, then choosing the largest oven you can find may not be the best thing to do.

What you want is to maximise your oven’s functionality but also be aware of the working and practical space you’ll need to preserve in your kitchen.

One brilliant solution is Neff’s Slide & Hide® range of ovens. With Slide & Hide®, when you open the oven door it neatly, and safely, slides under the oven, so it’s not taking up any extra space.

Neff has a huge range of single ovens, in stainless steel, which make use of this innovative, space-saving solution. They also use Neff’s CircoTherm® fan system. This patented technology allows the oven to achieve the desired temperature quickly and more evenly.

Essentially, CircoTherm® draws air into the oven then heats and recirculates it, saving time and energy. You’ll need very little or no pre-heating.

With Neff’s modern compact ovens, you’re not sacrificing anything by way of function, or design, due to constraints of space.

However, if it’s a large kitchen you’re having fitted, then Neff’s selection of stainless steel double ovens is impressive indeed. Not only this, but their built-under double ovens also save on space.

This is great news when it comes to designing your kitchen, because with the oven as one of its main features, you have more choice in how you want the finished article to look.

Different Features for Different Cooks

People cook differently from one another, and families develop their own tastes in what they want to eat, and how their meals are cooked.

It’s vital, therefore, that you choose the oven that suits your style of cooking, but that also gives you the opportunity to try new things in the kitchen, should you want to.

Neff’s oven range comes with a wide variety of features to make cooking easy, but also different, if you want it to be.

For example, you can get a range of ovens with a built-in steam cooking feature. There are big benefits to steaming food.

It lowers cholesterol, when cooking meat such as pork or lamb, if you steam it. This method removes the fat from the meat, and means you don’t need to use oil or fat for cooking. Steaming also preserves the flavour of vegetables and their fibre content, making them even healthier.

Steaming is quick and easy, it keeps your kitchen cleaner, and it retains many of the minerals and vitamins in cooked vegetables.

Neff also produce a range of built-in ovens with microwave functions, saving on space and giving you more options for what you want your oven to do.

Microwave cooking has always been quick and convenient, but with Neff’s built-in microwave range you can combine convenience with versatility.

Both steam and microwave ovens come in a compact format too, so even if your kitchen is small, you don’t have to miss out.

Doing the Double

The double oven is a great addition to the family kitchen, offering supreme functionality combined with streamlined stainless steel or black design. Most of Neff’s double ovens also take advantage of the CircoTherm® system to ensure excellent cooking efficiency.

With a Neff double oven, you can cook in different ways at the same time, including simultaneous baking and roasting.

You can be grilling using the top oven, and roasting in the bottom, or keeping food warm in one while finishing a dish in the other.

Double ovens provide versatility, and they’re great for either cooking large meals or just using the top oven and grill for something simpler.

The Oven in Your Kitchen

The oven you choose needs to be the right style, size and capability for your kitchen and what you want it to do.

You should weigh up both the design of your bespoke or fitted kitchen, and your cooking requires. Obviously, you don’t want to compromise on getting your dream kitchen, but you must also be realistic about what oven will work best in the setting you provide for it.

For some, a built-in double oven, in a column, will be ideal. For others, a built-under double, allowing for more countertop space, will be preferable. Single and compact ovens work well with smaller kitchens, but this is not an unbroken rule – you must choose the oven to suit your tastes.

Think about what you cook and when you cook. If you have a lot of family meals together then a bigger oven may be essential, but if you don’t do a lot of cooking, or if different people use the kitchen at various times, then this might not be the best choice.

Combined functions are useful, so that you can microwave, grill and bake, or use a steam-cooking function.

Be realistic, but also dare to dream: if you’ve got designs on being a more diverse, ambitious cook, then choose the oven that will give you the greatest opportunity to do this.
